The Keyword Counter answers the question a frequency list cannot: how often does this text use the specific terms I care about? Enter your keywords one per line and each is counted with its density as a percentage of the total word count, phrases included.
A word frequency list tells you what a text uses most. A keyword counter answers the opposite question: how often does it use the terms I care about? That is the question you have when you are optimising a page for a target phrase, checking a brand mention count in a press release, or making sure a required term appears in an assignment.
Enter your keywords one per line and each is counted separately, with its density as a percentage of the total word count. Multi-word phrases are supported and counted as phrases rather than as their individual words. Matching can be case-sensitive or not, and can be restricted to whole words so that counting "art" does not also count every "start" and "party" on the page.
A multi-word keyword is matched as a whole phrase rather than as its separate words, with extra whitespace ignored.
Require word boundaries so counting "art" does not also count every "start" and "party" on the page.
Occurrences as a percentage of total words, calculated per keyword rather than for the text as a whole.
Match brand names exactly when capitalisation matters, or fold case when it does not.
Terms that appear zero times are called out rather than quietly showing a nought, which is the result you most need to see.
The page, post or document you want to measure.
Enter one keyword or phrase per line. Multi-word phrases are matched as phrases.
Choose whole-word matching to avoid counting a keyword inside longer words, and decide whether case matters.
Each keyword gets a count and a density percentage against the total word count.
Between roughly 0.5 and 2 per cent for a primary term in a normal-length article. Google has not used raw density as a ranking signal for many years, so the figure is best read as a check against accidental over-use rather than a target to hit.
Whichever you enter. "Content marketing" on one line is counted as that two-word phrase; putting the words on separate lines counts each on its own. Phrase matching ignores extra whitespace between the words.
It requires a word boundary at each end of the match, so counting "art" finds the standalone word but not "start", "party" or "artist". Turn it off when you want stems and partial matches counted too.
The number of occurrences divided by the total word count, as a percentage. For a phrase, each occurrence counts once rather than once per word, which is the convention most SEO tools follow.
