The Email Typo Checker finds misspelled domains three ways — named misspellings, top-level domain slips and edit distance against common providers — and returns the corrected address for each.
Mistyped domains are a large share of the invalid addresses on any list built from a signup form, and unlike most bad addresses they are worth saving rather than deleting: the person meant to give you a real one and missed by a letter.
This finds them three ways. Named misspellings are matched outright, so gmial.com, gmai.com, hotnail.com and yahooo.com are caught with certainty. Top-level domain slips are checked separately, which is how anything ending .con, .cmo or .ner gets picked up whatever the domain is. Anything else is measured by edit distance against the common providers, with the threshold scaled to the length so short real domains are left alone.
Each hit comes with the corrected address in full, ready to copy back into your list or into a "did you mean" prompt on your own signup form.
Certain matches first, edit distance only as a fallback.
Anything ending .con, .cmo or .ner, whatever the domain is.
Known providers are never "corrected", and short domains need an exact-ish match.
Not just the domain — the whole address, ready to use.
Run a whole list and copy only the rows that changed.
One or a whole list — every line is checked.
Each likely typo is shown with the domain it was meant to be.
A named misspelling is certain; an edit-distance match is a guess.
Take the fixed addresses, or just the ones that changed.
Two ways. Common misspellings are held in a list and matched exactly, which is certain. Anything else is measured by Levenshtein edit distance against the popular providers, with the threshold scaled to the domain length so a short real domain is not "corrected" into something else.
It is built not to. Anything on the known free-provider or disposable lists is left alone entirely, and a domain of eight characters or fewer has to be a single edit away before it is flagged.
The corrections are yours to copy, and the same idea works well as a "did you mean" prompt after someone types their address. Suggest, never auto-correct — the one time you are wrong, you have lost the customer silently.
Yes. Top-level domain slips are checked separately from the domain name, so mycompany.con is caught even though mycompany is not a provider it knows.
