Turn screen RGB values into CMYK ink percentages for print.
The RGB to CMYK Converter turns red, green and blue channel values into cyan, magenta, yellow and black percentages, shows the ink coverage of each plate, and lists the colour in every other common notation.
Screens make colour by adding red, green and blue light; printers make it by laying cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink on paper. A logo, a brand palette or a web graphic designed in RGB needs CMYK values before it goes to a print shop, a packaging supplier or a sign maker.
Enter the red, green and blue channels — or paste any colour notation, or use the picker — and the converter gives the CMYK percentages with the working formula, an ink coverage bar for each plate and the total ink. The same colour is also listed as HEX, HSL, HSV, OKLCH and CIELAB, with its contrast against white and black text. The page is honest about the limit: this is the standard mathematical conversion, and a press applies its own ICC profile.
Each plate is drawn as a bar, with the total ink percentage underneath.
Type channels, paste rgb() or HEX, or use the colour picker.
The K and CMY calculation is written out, so the numbers can be checked.
HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, OKLCH and CIELAB of the same colour, each one click to copy.
WCAG contrast against white and black text is shown on the swatch.
Type red, green and blue from 0 to 255, paste a colour, or pick one.
Cyan, magenta, yellow and key percentages appear with the formula used.
Bars show each plate, and the total tells you how heavy the colour will print.
Every notation of the colour is listed with its own copy button.
Scale R, G and B to 0–1. K is 1 minus the largest of them; C is (1 − R − K) ÷ (1 − K), and M and Y follow the same pattern with G and B.
Ink on paper cannot reach the brightest RGB colours, especially vivid blues, greens and oranges. Those colours fall outside the CMYK gamut and are printed as the nearest ink mix.
It is the standard formula design tools show. A print shop converts through an ICC profile for its paper and press, so always proof critical colours.
Key — black ink. Adding black gives deeper shadows and uses less coloured ink than mixing cyan, magenta and yellow to make dark tones.
