Digits above nine
Bases over 10 borrow letters: A is 10, B is 11, and so on to Z at 35. That is why base 36 is as far as this notation goes.
The Number Base Calculator converts a number between any two bases from 2 to 36, with binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal always shown together for reference. The place-value breakdown is displayed, which is what makes base arithmetic click rather than stay a black box.
Convert a number from any base between 2 and 36 into any other, with binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal always displayed together for reference. Digits above 9 use letters, so base 16 runs 0-9 then A-F and base 36 runs all the way to Z.
The place-value breakdown is shown for the conversion, which is what makes base arithmetic click rather than remain a black box: the binary number 1011 is 1x8 plus 0x4 plus 1x2 plus 1x1, giving 11. Invalid digits are flagged rather than silently ignored, so a stray 2 in a binary string or a G in hexadecimal tells you what went wrong instead of producing a confidently wrong answer.
Digits above 9 use letters, so base 16 runs 0-9 then A-F and base 36 runs all the way to Z.
Binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal are shown alongside whatever conversion you asked for.
Binary 1011 is shown as 1×8 + 0×4 + 1×2 + 1×1 = 11, which is how the conversion stops being magic.
A stray 2 in a binary string or a G in hex is reported, rather than producing a confidently wrong answer.

Type the value using the digits valid for its base. Letters are accepted for bases above 10.
Tell the calculator which base your number is currently in.
The conversion appears instantly, with binary, octal, decimal and hex shown as a reference row.
Multiply each digit by its place value, a power of two, and add them up. Binary 1011 is 8 + 0 + 2 + 1, which is 11 in decimal.
Because there are only ten digit symbols. Bases above 10 borrow letters, so A is 10, B is 11 and so on up to Z at 35, which is the largest base this way of writing supports.
A binary-to-text encoding rather than a positional number base. It uses 64 characters to represent binary data as text, which is a different job entirely. Use the Base64 encoder for that.
It handles whole numbers. Fractional values in non-decimal bases can be non-terminating, which makes displaying them ambiguous, so the calculator sticks to integers.
