The MP3 to WAV Converter uncompresses lossy audio to 16 or 24 bit WAV for editing, with resampling, channel control and trimming — and an honest note about what it can and cannot restore.
Audio editors, samplers, DAWs, hardware players and some broadcast systems want uncompressed WAV. Handing them an MP3 means either a refusal or a silent re-encode at every save, which loses a little more each time.\n\nThe conversion runs in your browser through ffmpeg.wasm — the real ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded: a wedding video, a client recording or an unreleased track never leaves your machine. The engine is a one-off download of about 32 MB, after which your browser caches it and every later conversion starts immediately.
Choose 16-bit for CD-standard work or 24-bit for a studio session, set the sample rate, force mono or stereo, and trim to the section you need. The page is honest about what this does and does not achieve: a WAV made from an MP3 is the MP3’s audio, uncompressed. It stops further loss, which is the point — but it cannot restore what the original encode threw away.
16-bit CD standard or 24-bit for a studio session.
44.1 kHz for audio work, 48 kHz for video.
Editing in WAV avoids re-encoding at every save.
It says plainly that a WAV cannot restore what the MP3 discarded.
ffmpeg runs inside the browser tab, so the file never leaves your computer.
M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC work too.
16-bit for CD standard, 24-bit for studio work.
44.1 kHz for audio, 48 kHz for video work.
Ready for your editor.
No. It preserves exactly what the MP3 holds without losing more. Quality removed by the original encoder is gone for good.
Because editing an MP3 means decoding and re-encoding at every save, and each pass loses more. Work in WAV and export to MP3 once at the end.
About 10 MB a minute at 16-bit 44.1 kHz stereo, or 16 MB a minute at 24-bit 48 kHz.
16-bit unless your session is 24-bit. Converting an MP3 to 24-bit adds no detail — it only makes the file half as large again.
