Convert glucose between mg/dL and mmol/L, and HbA1c between % and mmol/mol.
HbA1c (optional)
The Blood Sugar Converter converts glucose readings between mg/dL and mmol/L, HbA1c between percent and mmol/mol, and HbA1c to estimated average glucose, showing where each value falls in the ADA reference ranges.
Blood glucose is reported in milligrams per decilitre in the United States, India and Bangladesh, and in millimoles per litre in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia. A reading of 7 and a reading of 126 can be exactly the same, which makes guidelines, meters and lab reports from different countries confusing.
Enter a reading in either unit and the converter gives the other, using the molar mass of glucose, and tells you where it sits in the American Diabetes Association ranges for a fasting, after-meal or random test. The HbA1c section converts between the percentage and IFCC mmol/mol forms labs use, and estimates your average glucose from it. Everything stays in your browser.
mg/dL and mmol/L convert using the molar mass of glucose, 18.016.
Fasting, two-hour and random readings are each compared with their own ADA cut-offs.
Percent (NGSP) and mmol/mol (IFCC) convert by the official master equation.
The ADAG formula turns HbA1c into an average glucose in both units.
A reading that looks like it was entered in the wrong unit gets a warning.
Type the number from your meter or lab report.
mg/dL or mmol/L, and whether it was fasting, after eating or random.
The value in the other unit appears with its reference range.
Convert between % and mmol/mol and see the estimated average glucose.
Divide by 18 (18.016 precisely). So 126 mg/dL is 7.0 mmol/L, and 100 mg/dL is 5.6 mmol/L.
Below 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L). 100–125 mg/dL is the prediabetes range, and 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or more on two tests indicates diabetes.
The ADAG study formula estimates average glucose in mg/dL as 28.7 × HbA1c − 46.7. An HbA1c of 7% corresponds to about 154 mg/dL.
No. It converts units and shows published reference ranges. Diagnosis and treatment targets come from your doctor.
