VAT Invoice Generator
A VAT invoice with both VAT numbers, a rate breakdown and reverse-charge wording.
Check company registration numbers on invoices — UK prefixes, and the shape elsewhere.
The Invoice Company Number Validator checks company registration numbers from invoices — UK Companies House formats with their SC, NI, OC and FC prefixes named, and the general shape for other countries with the register to search.
A limited company must show its registered number on its invoices, and that number is how you find the company in the register — the one place that tells you whether it still exists, who runs it, and whether it is in liquidation. A number that is the wrong shape means you cannot look anything up.
This checks the shape. A UK number is eight digits, or two letters and six: SC for Scotland, NI for Northern Ireland, OC for an LLP, FC for an overseas company, and a handful of others — and a prefix Companies House has never used is caught here. For other countries the general shape is checked and the register to look in is named.
Companies House numbers carry no check digit, so a well-formed number is not proof of anything: the register is free to search and takes ten seconds. Use this to catch the numbers that cannot be right, then look up the ones that matter. Nothing is uploaded.
SC, NI, OC, SO, FC and the rest.
Shape checked and the register named.
A supplier list at once.
No check digit exists, so the register is the proof.
Nothing is uploaded.
The UK has specific prefixes; others are checked for shape.
One per line, or a column of suppliers.
SC, NI, OC and the rest are named.
For the suppliers you are about to pay.
UK numbers do not, so only the format and the prefix can be checked. Some other registers do; where they do not, the register itself is the only proof.
SC is a Scottish company, NI Northern Irish, OC an LLP in England and Wales, SO a Scottish LLP, FC an overseas company. Each is named in the result.
No. A company number comes from the companies register when the company is formed; a VAT number comes from the tax authority when it registers for VAT. Many companies have one and not the other.
Because company law requires it, and because it is what lets you check the supplier exists and is solvent before paying.
