Degrees to radians and back, with exact multiples of π and trig values.
Degrees accept DMS (33° 15′ 30″). Radians accept multiples of π: pi/3, 3π/4, 2pi.
Degrees to Radians converts angles in either direction, gives exact answers as multiples of π, accepts DMS and π expressions as input, and shows sine, cosine and tangent with a table of common angles.
Radians are the natural unit for angles in mathematics and programming: every trigonometric function in JavaScript, Python, C and Excel expects them, while people think in degrees. Converting is one multiplication, but getting an exact answer — 60° is π/3, not 1.047 — is what a maths class or a formula actually needs.
Type an angle in degrees, including degrees-minutes-seconds, and the converter gives the radians as a decimal and, whenever it exists, as an exact multiple of π. Switch direction to turn radians into degrees; you can type pi/3 or 3π/4 directly. Sine, cosine, tangent and milliradians are shown alongside, with a table of the common angles every student is expected to know.
60° comes back as π/3 as well as 1.0471975512, whenever an exact form exists.
Radians accept pi/3, 3π/4 or 2pi as well as decimals.
The multiply-by-π-over-180 step is written out with your numbers.
Sine, cosine and tangent are calculated, with tangent marked undefined at 90° and 270°.
The seventeen standard angles from 0° to 360° with exact and decimal radians.
Degrees as a decimal or in DMS form, such as 33° 15′ 30″.
Degrees to radians, or radians to degrees — radians accept pi/3 and 3π/4.
The answer shows the decimal and the multiple of π, plus the working.
Sine, cosine and tangent are shown, with a table of common angles below.
Radians = degrees × π ÷ 180. For radians to degrees, multiply by 180 and divide by π.
About 57.29578 degrees. A radian is the angle whose arc is as long as the circle’s radius.
π/2, which is about 1.5708 radians. A full circle, 360°, is 2π radians.
Because the calculus behind sine and cosine is simplest in radians, so Math.sin and its equivalents are defined on radians. Convert first or the result is wrong.
