Missing Text Finder
Find the lines in one list that are absent from another.
Trim whitespace, or cut every line down to a maximum length.
Trim Text does both things the word means: clearing the leading and trailing whitespace that makes identical-looking values fail to match, and cutting lines down to a maximum character or word count at a word boundary. Both can run in the same pass.
Trim means two different things and this tool does both. The first is removing the whitespace at the ends of a string, which is the invisible fault that makes two identical-looking values fail to match. The second is cutting text down to a maximum length, which is what a meta description, a product title or a database column needs.
Whitespace trimming works on each line or on the whole text, and covers the invisible Unicode spaces as well as ordinary ones. Length trimming cuts to a character or word count and can step back to the last whole word rather than ending mid-word, with an ellipsis appended if you want one. Both can run in the same pass, which is usually what messy data actually needs.
Non-breaking and zero-width spaces are cleared alongside ordinary ones, which a plain trim misses.
Cuts step back to the last whole word, unless that would throw away too much of the allowance.
The text is shortened enough that an appended ellipsis still fits under the cap.
Trim every row of a column independently, or treat the whole block as one value.
How many lines were truncated and how many characters were trimmed away.
A list of values, a set of titles or a document.
Clear leading and trailing spaces from each line, including the invisible ones.
Cut each line to a character or word count, breaking at a word boundary rather than mid-word.
Append … to any line that was actually cut, so truncation is visible.
Because comparisons are exact. "apple " and "apple" are different strings, so a lookup fails, a join misses rows and a duplicate check does not spot the duplicate — all because of a character you cannot see.
Yes. Non-breaking spaces, zero-width spaces and the other Unicode whitespace characters are trimmed alongside ordinary spaces and tabs, which a plain trim function usually misses.
The text is cut at the limit, then stepped back to the last complete word unless that would remove more than about a third of the allowance. That avoids both mid-word cuts and absurdly short results.
Yes, when you switch that on. The text is cut short enough that the ellipsis fits inside the limit, which is what a meta description or a database column requires.
