Text Statistics builds a complete profile of a document in one pass — volume, averages, distribution, vocabulary, readability and pacing — and puts each figure in context, because an average sentence length of 24 words means nothing until you know the normal range is 15 to 20.
Individual counters answer one question each. This answers all of them at once and, more usefully, puts the numbers in context — a sentence length of 24 words means nothing until you know that ordinary English prose averages 15 to 20.
The profile covers volume (characters, words, sentences, paragraphs), averages with their normal ranges marked, distribution (how sentence lengths vary, which is what makes prose feel monotonous or varied), vocabulary (distinct words, diversity, most frequent terms), readability, and pacing. Where a figure falls outside the typical range it is flagged, so the output is a set of observations rather than a wall of numbers.
Averages come with the typical English range and are flagged when they fall outside it.
Variation, not just the average — which is what separates varied prose from monotonous prose.
Distinct words, diversity ratio and the terms the text leans on most.
A grade level alongside the counts, so you do not need a second tool.
At 225 and 130 words per minute, the established averages for each.

Characters, words, sentences and paragraphs, with reading and speaking times.
Each average is shown with the typical English range, and flagged when it falls outside.
Sentence length variation is what separates varied prose from monotonous prose.
Fifteen to twenty words for general English prose. Journalism runs shorter, around 12 to 18. Academic writing runs longer, often 25 to 30, which is a large part of why it is harder to read.
Because uniform sentence length reads as monotonous regardless of what the average is. Good prose mixes short sentences with long ones, and the standard deviation shown here measures exactly that.
For a piece of a few hundred words, 0.40 to 0.50 is typical. The figure naturally falls as a text lengthens because common words repeat, so it is only comparable between texts of similar length.
At 225 words per minute, the average adult silent reading speed. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, which is a comfortable presentation pace.
