PNG with transparency is the usual format for a sprite sheet
The Sprite Sheet Splitter cuts a packed sheet back into individual frames. Give the grid or the cell size, adjust for any outer margin and inter-cell spacing, and the cuts are drawn over the preview so you can confirm the alignment before generating. Entirely transparent cells can be skipped, which tidies up a partly filled last row.
The reverse of packing: you have a sheet and you need the frames. This comes up with asset packs that ship as one image, with old game art, and any time an animation needs editing frame by frame.
Give either the grid — say 8 columns by 4 rows — or the cell size in pixels, and the sheet is divided accordingly with the cuts drawn over the preview so you can check the alignment before committing. Offset and spacing fields handle sheets that have a margin around the outside or padding between cells. Frames that are entirely transparent can be skipped, which is usually what you want with a partly filled last row.
Describe the sheet as 8 by 4, or as 64 by 64 pixel cells — either gets you to the same cuts.
Sheets with a border around the outside or gaps between cells are handled, with the preview moving to match.
Fully transparent cells can be left out of the ZIP, which removes the padding at the end of a sheet.
Cut lines are drawn over the sheet so a wrong cell size is obvious before you generate anything.
Frames are numbered in reading order and zero-padded, so they stay in sequence in any file browser.
Drop in the sprite sheet. PNG with transparency is the usual format.
Give columns and rows, or the exact cell width and height in pixels.
If the sheet has an outer margin or gaps between cells, set them so the cuts line up.
Every cell is saved as its own PNG inside one ZIP, numbered in reading order.
Divide the sheet width by the number of columns you can count. If the result is a whole number and the preview grid lines up with the artwork, it is right.
Yes. Turn on skipping and any frame that is entirely transparent is left out of the ZIP, which tidies up a partly filled final row.
Set the spacing value to the gap in pixels and the margin value to any border around the outside. The preview grid moves with them so you can confirm the fit.
Yes — left to right, then top to bottom, zero-padded so they sort correctly in any file browser.
