Generate random strings from any character set you choose.
The Random Text Generator produces random strings from whatever character set you specify — letters, digits, symbols or a custom set — using the browser's cryptographic random source. Ambiguous characters can be excluded in one click, which matters for any code a person has to read and retype.
Random strings are needed constantly and almost never in the same shape twice. A test fixture wants twenty alphanumeric characters. A coupon code wants eight uppercase letters with no O or I in them. A file suffix wants six lowercase hex digits. A stress test wants a thousand strings at once.
This generates them from whatever character set you specify: letters in either case, digits, symbols, or a custom set you type. Ambiguous characters — 0 and O, 1 and l and I — can be excluded in one click, which matters for anything a human will read aloud or type from a printout. Generation uses the browser's cryptographic random source where it is available, so the output is genuinely unpredictable rather than merely varied.
Uses crypto.getRandomValues where available, so the output is genuinely unpredictable rather than merely varied.
Drop 0, O, 1, l and I in one click for anything read from a screen or a printout.
Type your own alphabet when the format is fixed by something other than convenience.
Up to ten thousand strings at once, with duplicate detection so you can confirm the set is unique.
The bits of entropy per string, so you can judge whether the length is actually enough.
Uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols are each a switch, or type your own set.
How long each string should be, and how many you need.
Drop 0, O, 1, l and I when a person has to read or retype the result.
Press generate for a fresh set; every string is new each time.
It uses crypto.getRandomValues where the browser provides it, which is a cryptographically secure source. For production secrets, generate them on the server in the environment they will be used — a value that has passed through a browser page should be treated as exposed.
Because 0 and O, and 1 and l and I, are indistinguishable in many fonts. Any code a person reads from a screen or a printout and types somewhere else should leave them out, which typically costs about four bits of entropy.
For a unique identifier, sixteen alphanumeric characters gives roughly 95 bits of entropy, which is ample. For a human-typed code, eight is the practical limit before errors dominate.
Yes, up to ten thousand in one go, one per line. Duplicate detection is shown so you can confirm the set is unique before you use it.
