Whether the target is still within reach
Required score = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If that comes out above 100, the target is no longer reachable, and the calculator says so rather than displaying an impossible number.
The Grade Calculator works out your current weighted grade from assignments and their weights, then answers the question people actually come for: what score you need on the final exam to finish with the grade you want.
Work out where you currently stand from your assignments and their weights, then answer the question everyone actually opens this kind of tool for: what score do I need on the final to finish with the grade I want.
Weighted grading is the source of most confusion here, because a category weight and a point total are not the same thing. Scoring 90 percent on homework worth 10 percent of the course moves your final grade by nine points at most, however many assignments that category contained. The calculator works in category weights throughout, and reports honestly when a target grade is no longer reachable rather than displaying an impossible required score without comment.
Which is how courses actually grade, rather than treating every assignment as equal.
Required score = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight, computed for you.
If a grade can no longer be reached, the tool says so instead of displaying a required score above 100.
They are normalised, so you can compute a running grade mid-semester before every category is graded.
The percentage is mapped to a letter grade on the standard scale alongside the number.
A score and a weight for each. Weights can be percentages or points.
The weighted average of everything graded so far, with the letter grade.
What proportion of the course grade the final is worth.
The score you would need on the final is calculated, or flagged as unreachable.
Multiply each score by its weight, add those together, then divide by the total weight used so far. Ungraded work is excluded until it has a score.
Required score = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. If the answer is above 100, the target is no longer reachable.
Because its category weight was small. A perfect score in a category worth 5 percent can only move your final grade by five points at absolute most.
The calculator normalises them, so relative weights still work. That also lets you compute a running grade mid-semester before every category has been graded.
