Convert GPM, L/min, m³/h, CFM and cfs — and time how long a fill takes.
The Flow Rate Converter translates volumetric flow between litres per second, per minute and per hour, cubic metres, US and imperial gallons, CFM, cfs and oil barrels per day, and times how long a flow takes to fill a volume.
Flow rates are quoted in a surprising number of units: pumps in cubic metres per hour or US gallons per minute, fans and ducts in cubic feet per minute, showers and taps in litres per minute, rivers in cubic feet per second and water utilities in million gallons per day.
This converter handles seventeen of them, keeping US and imperial gallons apart — the difference is twenty percent, and mixing them up is the classic mistake. Enter a flow, pick the units and read the answer plus the full table. Give it a volume and it also tells you how long that flow takes to fill it, and how much it moves in a day and in a year.
US and imperial gallons per minute are separate units, avoiding the 20 percent mix-up.
CFM and m³/h for ventilation sit next to GPM and L/min for water.
Enter a volume in litres to see how long the flow takes to fill it.
The flow is also expressed as litres per day and cubic metres per year.
Million gallons per day and barrels per day cover water works and oil flows.
Type the value from the pump curve, fan label or meter.
Choose the source and target units — US and UK gallons are listed separately.
Enter litres to see how long the flow takes to fill a tank, bath or pool.
The table shows the flow in every unit; click to copy.
Multiply US gallons per minute by 3.785411784. For imperial gallons per minute multiply by 4.54609 instead.
Cubic feet per minute, the usual rating for fans, air compressors and HVAC ducts. One CFM is about 1.699 cubic metres per hour.
One cubic metre per hour is 1,000 litres over 3,600 seconds, about 0.2778 litres per second.
Yes. A US gallon is 3.785 litres and an imperial gallon 4.546 litres, so a flow in US GPM is about 17% smaller than the same number in UK GPM.
