Convert text to Base64 and back, with full Unicode support.
The Base64 Encoder & Decoder converts text to Base64 and back, with full Unicode support and a URL-safe mode. Base64 lets binary data travel through systems that only expect text — email bodies, JSON fields, data URIs and HTTP headers.
Base64 encodes binary data using 64 printable ASCII characters so it can travel safely through systems that only expect text — email bodies, JSON fields, data URIs and HTTP headers. It is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it, so never treat it as a way to hide a secret.
This converter handles Unicode correctly. Naive Base64 tools break on emoji and accented characters because they assume one byte per character; here the text is UTF-8 encoded first, so any script round-trips exactly. There is also a URL-safe mode that swaps the plus and slash characters for hyphen and underscore, which is what JWTs and query parameters require.

Tokens and payloads are converted in your browser and never sent to a server.
Switch between Encode and Decode depending on which way you are converting.
Enter plain text to encode, or a Base64 string to decode.
The result updates as you type. Copy it with one click.
No. Base64 is a reversible encoding with no key. Anyone who has the string can decode it, so it offers no confidentiality whatsoever.
Base64 works in three-byte groups. When the input length is not a multiple of three, one or two equals signs are appended as padding.
A variant that replaces the plus and slash characters with hyphen and underscore, because the standard characters have special meaning inside a URL. JWT tokens use this variant.
Usually the string was truncated, contains stray whitespace or line breaks, or is URL-safe Base64 being decoded in standard mode. Switch the mode and try again.
